Match Reports 29th May
1st XI
After winning the toss on a wet afternoon Cheam elected to field. After 2.2 overs Walton we 7 - 0 when the heavens opened washing out any hope of further cricket. Cheam entertain Spencer next week in a must win game as a number of our rivals were able to dodge the rain!
2nd XI
An early meet and a trek across Surrey in the rain for the 2's on Saturday.
Upon arrival at Egham the ducks were enjoying the weather whilst the players locked themselves in the changing room. Changing room cricket was the theme of the 1st two hours (remember that game we played at Cheam when we had proper changing rooms???!!) Dribs took the lead, turning a tennis ball square on the concrete floor, Blackman deciding the most efficient way to bat was using his head. No sense no feeling after all! Beefy's IPOD was on, some classics on there he only plays for the ladies!
Eventually the game got underway with 30 over's per side. Cheam lost the toss and we put into bat on a sticky track and were soon 10-2 with Circus and DJ at the crease. They stabilised proceedings with a mixture of graft and flair to get the score to 90 before Circus was out LBW trying to work a 2 rather than take the easy single. It went horribly wrong from that point with batsman coming in and playing shots more suited to baseball than cricket, and when Blackman came to the crease (107-7) the usually confident Cheam looked rather nervous. Thank god DJ was still out there! However, Blackman left his dummy in the changing room and batted well ..... like a batsman, hitting 41 N.O. Beefy who's job it was to 'stay with him' was doing a good job until he caught a glimpse of a bus stop out of the corner of his eye with a young female stood there, ran down the wicket leaving the ball and was stumped!! After 30 over's Cheam got 169. A decent score.
Now for tea. Not only was this a bad toss to lose because Cheam would have fielded first, but upon seeing the tea, Circus was even more devastated. How can we field after that?? Best tea by a mile, can we play there again please?
Blackman had recovered from the shock of his score and was pumped up. Bowling his best spell of the season to date to finish with figures of 6-3-8-0. although was very unlucky to have not been given an LBW decision that was missing off and leg, hitting somewhere on middle stump. He took the decision well though, only swearing a couple of times at the batsman!! Beefy came on 1st change and took his regulation wicket with a pie 1/2 mile outside off stump. The batsman sprinted to his right and hit it, straight a Dribs who decided it was too much effort to use two hands and plucked it out of the air with 1, threw himself to the ground and rolled a couple of times. From then on, it was a 'restrict the run rate game'. Machine who had drank a bottle of WD40 before going out to field was sweeping the boundary, with Circus only stood at slip for 10 over's allowing his tea to go down before gracing the outfield with his presence! 29 over's gone, Egham are 2 down and need 20 to win. Up comes Dribble. His first 2 balls got wickets, both caught on the boundary (Rat, who was watching would have been proud!). His hat trick never came off, then, a catch from Pricey meant the game was Cheam's. Egham 156-6 off 30.
Man of the Match this week was Blackman. Lets hope his wife keeps letting him out on Saturday afternoons!!!!!
3 wins out of 4 now for Cheam who have Old Wimbledonians away next week. Big match!!
